Start with the performance garment’s label
Activewear may include polyester, nylon, elastane, bonded details and functional finishes. The highest wash or dryer heat is not a universal solution for sweat or odors and can damage some products.
Use a compatible wash method
Follow the permitted temperature and program.
Choose a suitable detergent and measured amount.
Check stain-product compatibility before pretreatment.
Follow instructions about fabric softener and bleach.
Use a suitable load and rinse process.
Do not mix laundry recipes
Adding vinegar or baking soda by a generic cup measure is not a substitute for product directions. Sweat and body-soil problems can include several substances; calling sweat simply a protein stain does not justify high heat.
Dry as directed
Use the approved drying method and let the item dry fully before storage. Air drying does not guarantee odor removal, and unvalidated high-heat drying should not be described as a disinfection method.
Manufacturer example
Nike’s workout-clothing guidance explains care considerations for performance fabrics. Follow the exact instructions for your item.
Before recoloring
Stretch components, finishes and logos may limit dyeing. A compatible main fiber does not prove the whole garment can withstand the required process.
