There is no single textile-designer salary
Job titles can cover surface design, print development, woven or knit design, product development and other responsibilities. Pay depends on location, employer, scope, experience and employment arrangement.
Use comparable data
- Match the duties, not just the title.
- Check the country, region and reporting year.
- Distinguish median pay from mean pay.
- Separate employee salary from freelance revenue.
- Compare benefits, hours and the full compensation package.
Official statistics have boundaries
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics fashion-designer page is a related occupational source, but it is not a dedicated pay survey of every textile-design job. Use its date and occupation definition when interpreting the figures.
Research actual openings
Compare current postings with similar duties and location. Record stated ranges, required skills and whether the role is permanent, contract or freelance. Do not assume a fixed salary band follows automatically from three or five years of experience.
For freelance work
Account for project time, revisions, licensing, expenses and unpaid business administration. An hourly billing rate is not directly comparable with an employee’s hourly wage.
