Yarn Dyeing

Fast Dye offers dye tube and cone winding. Dyed yarns can be wound with disc wax and/or emulsions. Six and nine degree cones are available options.

Indie dyed yarn refers to a person who dyes small quantities of yarn independently. Some have a small workshop in their garage or basement and are not part of a larger company.

Space dyeing is a way of dyeing yarn in which several colors are applied along the length of each strand of yarn. These strands may(or may not) repeat after a fixed interval. This process gives yarn a multi-colored effect and is sometimes called dip-dyed yarn.

Yarn dyeing is a particular process of dyeing yarn. Yarn can be dyed in package form or hank form. Woven dyeing and knit dyeing are slightly different. Dyed yarns are used for constructing stripe knit or woven fabrics. Solid dyed yarn is commonly used in sweater manufacturing.

The yarn dyeing process time varies depending on yarn fiber, color, quantity being dyed, and dye method. Times can range from one to four hours.

Yarn can be made from animal fibers such as alpaca, lamb and mohair which are mostly protein. Yarn can also be made from vegetable fibers such as linen, ramie, and cotton. Man made fibers such as microfiber, acrylic, polyester and nylon can also be used to make yarn.
